Laser Acne Treatments

Laser acne treatments are one of the most widely discussed acne scar treatments.  This is because of their success at removing scars and a general curiosity surrounding laser medical treatments.

Laser acne treatments usually fall into two groups: ablative and non-ablative lasers.  The ablative ones will go over the top layers of skin smoothing out the scar.  These types of treatments work best for extended pimples and zits.  After using these laser treatments, one can expect to have some initial redness or irritation that will go away after a few weeks.  This is due to the actual burning of skin that occurs in this treatment.

Non-ablative lasers are usually reserved for helping raise dented scars.  They actually go underneath the skin directly to the collagen encouraging it to grow.  This collagen regrowth causes the dented skin to raise and level out.

Concerns for laser acne treatments center around skin color changes. People who have darker skin pigments should take extra time finding very experienced and qualified doctors to perform these surgeries. These doctors seem to do a much better job at reducing or eliminating any skin color changes for these individuals. The best thing you can do to find a doctor with the right background is to ask around for recommendations and to ask about the doctor’s experience with these procedures and to ask for references. It is highly advisable to pay more in this area to ensure you get a quality doctor. Since this procedure will most likely be performed on one of your body’s most sensitive areas, your face, choose a doctor that has proven he/she is can give you top quality care.
